Maine Striper Fishing Report June 12th, 2013 Kennebec River
Whoever said that fishing in the rain is over rated has never had a day of fishing like we had today...The lower Kennebec is absolutely on fire...Birds dive bombing sustained surface feeds and bent rods are what we had to deal with this morning...did I mention that it was also raining?? Today I had Jeremiah Jewell aboard for some light tackle fishing...we hopped aboard the boat at the Kennebec tavern around 5:00am this morning and headed down toward the mouth...At the first stop we were greeted instantly by dozens of stripers cartwheeling through balled up schools of river herring...we had these fish all to ourselves for about 20 minutes until, incredibly, a guy in a flats skiff drove straight through the school of blitzing stripers and immediately the fish went down faster than the Titanic on it's maiden voyage(so much for having a stealthy flats boat gotta love it)Didn't really effect us too badly but I decided to go off and find another spot that we wouldnt have to contend with another boat repeatedly driving circles through the fish. Ran about a 1/2 mile into the fog to another location...this spot was completely covered in blitzing Striped Bass that were smashing river herring on the surface and we went to work on them until we were bored...each spot we visited was the same story, loads of striped bass crashing bait on the surface. This continued until low tide slack. When the tide started to flood we decided to head back to the dock...we didn't make it far before running into several huge flocks of terns dive bombing a shallow flat and underneath them was the motherload of blitzes...this one continued for more than an hour as we boated fish after fish after fish before finally calling it a day with the fish still biting. I can honestly say that I've never been much of a bird chaser because I don't really like fishing in a crowd but on a day like today, when we had the water mostly to ourselves, it was a whole lot of fun. Maine Striper Fishing Report: Kennebec River June 10 ,2013

The Striper striper fishing is off to great start here on the Maine coast. Yesterday morning I had Chris Oliver aboard , each of the last 9-10 years Chris has caught his first Stripers of the year while fishing aboard my boat. This season would not be any different. After loading the boat with gear in the dark we untied the boat and cruised down the Kennebec chasing a ripping outgoing tide...After a quick stop to prospect some bottom structure, we hammered down river to the edge of an expansive hard bottom flat where we could visibly see stripers waking and slurping river herring, It took only one cast to confirm what our eyes were seeing as Chris worked his Ron-z soft plastic a very hungry 29" striper quickly chased it down and demolished it with an explosive strike right at the boat...And so it would go for the rest of the morning...Each flat we visited held very good numbers of "schoolie" stripers that Chris was more than happy to go to work on...At the end of the morning we had boated a respectable 31 stripers up to 30 inches long, 6 of which came on the new Temple Fork Outfitters BVK 6wt flyrod rigged with a 175 grain sinking head line. The rest of the fish came on light tackle spinning gear rigged with a mix of bucktail & soft plastic jigs. Over the next couple of weeks we should continue to see the fishing improve as more migratory fish arrive and settle back into their summer feeding grounds on the coast of Maine.
If you are planning to hit the salt water for Stripers this season....I could think of worse times to go ;-)

Maine Striper Fishing Report May 2013
Hello everyone!! The big news for us this week is that we are officially open for business for the 2013 season. Yesterday after about 2weeks of working on the boat, we splashed the boat and she is now sitting comfortably in her slip at the Kennebec Tavern Restaurant & Marina located in Bath.
Now for the fishing!! Striped Bass have begun migrating into Maine waters, with anglers in Southern Maine seeing the best action. Early season fishing is extremely tide sensitive and we seem to have our best success in the rivers and shallow estuaries around well known herring runs. One of my favorite techniques early on is to work the edges of the flats during dropping tides. Striped Bass tend to hang along these edges feeding on herring, shrimp, crabs on other small baits as they are washed off the flats by our powerful tides. The reason that I focus on fishing these flats and edges is that when the tide rolls in over these shallow water dark bottom mudflats is that the water warms up much more quickly. The water temp might only be 2-3 degrees warmer up on the flats but it can also be as much as 5-7 degrees warmer!!! In my opinion this warmer water draining off the flats and out of the creeks will give the Stripers a metabolic charge which makes them much more active in their feeding habits. Working the river bank structure around current seams is also highly productive...For the light tackle fishermen Soft plastic swimbaits, bucktail jigs, and topwater plugs score the most fish early on. Fly fishermen will do very well casting fast sink shooting heads & intermediate sink lines using a variety of baitfish imitations such as leftys deceiver or clouser minnows. For anglers fishing outside of the Kennebec Special regs area...a live lined Herring or Mackerel is nearly impossible to beat and accounts for some of the biggest fish caught each season!!
For those of you who follow this blog and tune in regularly for reports, rest assured, that once the fishing heats up, I will be posting reports, daily & weekly. Also as in the past, for the folks that request them, I will be giving live reports via text message and also on my facebook pages.
Really looking forward to the season and I'm looking forward to seeing many of you again this year!!

Maine Striper Fishing Report October 12th, 2012
Yesterday morning I had Dennis Kelly back aboard for another tagging session...Joining him were "ringers" Ray Paradis from Arrowsic & the Scarborough crew of Mike Giroux and Capt. Ben Gardner (Kristin K Charters)...We had a screeching WNW wind to contend with which made getting good drifts nearly impossible...that said we still managed to put 40+/- fish in the boat...In four trips to maine this season Dennis has tagged approx 160 Stripers and this trip put him over 13500 for his career!!! Still some really good fishing left but don't wait...it's going to be over soon!!

Maine Striper Fishing Reports October 6th, 2012
The Striped bass fishing continues to be very strong on the Kennebec watershed...This morning we fished the outgoing tide and as soon as the tide started to rip the Stripers smashed our jigs over and over again...We still have ideal water temps and vast schools of baitfish anchoring our stripers in place so don't hang the rods up just yet...PLEASE GET IN TOUCH WITH US ASAP TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE HOTTEST ACTION OF THE SEASON!!!

www.superfly-charters.com The fishing on the Kennebec continues to rage on into the fall...every day we are putting big numbers of fish in the boat especially during peak tidal flows. Today I had Gary Eaton with his crew from Idexx back aboard the fishing did not dissappoint...right from the get go we jumped all over the stripers as soon as our jigs hit bottom they were getting slammed over and over again...I suspect this will continue for another 2-3 weeks before the fish move off to the south...We' are rolling right along and the rest of the week is filled with repeat clients starting with a double header tomorrow!!! Lots of fun times for those of us who have kept our heads in the game!!!
