Maine Striper Fishing Report May, 26th 2010

Striper Fishing Begins In Maine

After spending 10 days fishing in South Florida, I've returned to Maine and have begun my guiding season here in Maine. Our first trip out yielded severel fat stripers. We had our best fishing during the outgoing tide...Water temps ranged from 71 degrees to 63 degrees...With our warmer water temps and massive amounts of bait...i'm thinking that we're going to have a great season this year....Reports from southern Maine also support that idea.

Call us if you'd like to join us for a day or two this coming season. We'll be happy help you plan your Maine vacation!!! Depending on which region of the Maine coast you're staying on...we can provide you with info on all the top fishing guides. If fly fishing isn't your thing...no worries we're well equipped for light tackle & live bait fishing too!!!

Maine Saltwater Fishing Report: Super Fly Charters

Your Source For Northeast Fishing Reports And Sportfishing Charters

Reports from all over the northeast have been arriving steadily at my email message inbox...They all share a common theme, 2010 is going to be a great fishing year on the salty northeast coast. Starting on Long Island Sound, Den Kelly reports seeing good numbers of Striped Bass over the past week. Den's an ardent Striped Bass tagger for the American littoral Society who recently tagged his 12,000 Striper.

Moving north to Cape Cod, Super Fly Salty Anglers Club member & owner of the Buzzards Bay Angler;Capt. Nick Santolucito reports that migrating Stripers are arriving in Buzzards Bay. Other anglers in that area report running into HUGE schools of blitzing Bluefish...a good sign indeed.

Super Fly Salty Anglers Club member Chris Oliver chimes in with a report of AMAZING Stellwagen Bank groundfish action....limiting out early on market sized Cod to 15 pounds with a nice pick of Haddock, Pollock and Cusk. Modified diamond jigs rigged with butterfly stinger hooks & Berkely Gulp teasers and sea clams were getting all the strikes...Huge schools of sandeels are covering up vast areas of the bank providing the forage.

In Maine all the usual herring runs are starting to stack up with Alewives...Mackerel have shown up in Casco Bay..Migrating Striped Bass will be arriving by the middle of May and our season will once again be underway lasting well into the fall. Our calendar is starting to fill up so we anticipate another extremely busy charter season. Thank you to everyone who has already committed to their dates and thanks in advance to everyone who intends to fish with us this season.

Once our season starts, i'll be posting daily fishing reports and photos of our days catch. If you haven't yet booked your trip...call us today to reserve your date.

Maine Saltwater Fishing Reports 2010

Maine Striper Fishing Reports

Well...I spent the day working on the "Super Fly", the hull has been cleaned & waxed...twice!!! The brand new blingin' color Raymarine electronics installed. Just a few more loose ends to tie up and she's ready to splash!!!

For those of you who don't know, the " Super Fly" is our Beaufort, NC built 21' Parker CC Special Edition. Parker has building boats for well over 30 years, built & designed to run the treacherous waters of North Carolina's Outer Banks. Parker has built a legendary & well deserved reputation among top east coast guides.
After running several smaller, able, yet less capable, skiffs, off the coast of Maine & Florida, we think we've found the ultimate fly & light tackle fishing skiff for fishing the rugged New Enland coast.
With it's 10 inch draft the "Super Fly" can easily fish the skinny water of the flats. With it's elevated casting platform on front deck, our anglers can easily sight & cast to their quarry...on the platform the anglers eye's are almost on the same level as your guides, no more worrying about casting to the numbers of a clock, you'll see your target.

Safety, client comfort & fishability were all qualities that drew me to Parker boats. The wide beam and Carolina flared bow will keep you dry & comfortable when that afternoon seabreeze kicks up a tide chop.

Our boat is as capable chasing " Football" Bluefin Tuna off the Maine coast as it is on the flats. With its mid thigh gunnels you'll be able to brace yourself as we race to intercept a school of "Blitzing" fish to get you in posistion to make that long cast to the boiling tuna.
For the livebait enthusiast, We have rigged the "Super Fly" with two massive forty gallon livewells each fed by dual high capacity raw water pumps. We can carry all the live bait necessary for a full day on the water. Those Maine stripers wont stand a chance when we drift down over that ledge with some live "swimmers" in the water. Also ask about our "Bait & Switch" techniques for Fly & Light Tackle anglers...you wont believe how well it works!!!

Maine Striper Fishing 2010: Gearing Up For The Spring Herring Runs

Herring runs in Maine can often produce the biggest Striped Bass of the season

With the start of the Maine Striper Fishing season almost upon us it's time to start thinking about targeting the huge herring runs that occur along the entire coast of Maine. Some of the largest Striped Bass of the year are caught during June as Alewive & Blueback Herring migrate back to their natal rivers and upsteam lakes to spawn.
We concentrate on the prolific herring runs of the Kennebec river Also Muscongus Bay & the St. George, Medomak and Damariscotta rivers as these offer some of the largest alewive runs in state waters. Large 6-10 inch "hollow" herring flies fished with 9-10 wt rods & 300-450 grain sinking head lines. A Short 4-6 foot flouro leader is all you need...keep it simple!!! I highly reccomend using a loop knot to attach your fly, this will give your fly much more movement allowing you to present your offering with appeal of fluttering injured baitfish.
for the light tackle anglers target the same Herring runs using large soft plastics such as slug-go and fin-s fish, either fished weightless or with varying sized jig heads. Live lining herring will produce when all else fails!!!
Call now to set up a time before prime dates fill.

Reservations continue to come in for the 2010 Maine Striper fishing season & Interest remains high for our nearshore Bluefin Tuna trips!!!

Maine Striper Fishing 2010: Dominican Republic North Shore Report

Dominican Republic North Shore Report

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lately the fishing in the D.R. has been getting alot of press....I recently had the chance to spend some time exploring the fishing around the north shore of the Dominican Republic...I spent 8 days fishing with a local panga Capt. and mate out of Sosua Bay...Sosua is conveniently located only 10-15 minutes east of the Puerto Plata airport.
It was my first trip to this area so this trip was largely exploratory...We fished mainly bluewater as the edge of the drop is in quite tight to Sosua. Dorado were the primary target and boy were they willing to eat...The locals have set up an extensive set of F.A.D's...under which the Dorado loved to gather...so thats where we mostly focused our efforts. Each day out we had a solid pick of Mahi between 30"and 50" also a few wahoo each day and as a bonus some "football" tunas on light tackle. One day we also had the treat of sight casting to smallish tripletail on the weedlines and flotsam.

The next trip...we'll focus on the inshore fishing and around some river mouths and the extensive reefs that line the coast....Snook, Tarpon, Jacks etc....stay tuned!!!
