Midcoast Maine Striper Report June 2012

The slow moving storm that dumped 7-8 inches of rain over much of the coast of Maine has moved on...Left in it's wake are swollen rivers and silted up bays from all the runoff...Prior to the storm we enjoyed some red hot action and I suspect after several days the rivers and bays will flush themselves out and the fishing will return to normal. Today I hopped in the boat and went on tour with a couple of rods at the ready...Starting in Bath at the Kennebec Tavern I headed downriver into the Sasanoa in search of cleaner water, I did not find any there so I pushed across Hockomock Bay into Sheepscot Bay where I found considerably cleaner water and loads of herring and macks, As I made my way out of sheepscot bay I headed for the surfline at Reid State Park...more clean fishable water, the closer I got to the mouth of the Kennebec I started to run into a plume of brown water that was directly related to stormwater runoff. Tomorrow I will continue to scout, this time west of the Kennebec into outer Casco Bay....I'm pretty sure that I'll find clean water and most likely, hungry Stripers mopping up juvie Herring and Mackerel...please stay tuned!!!

On another note: I just receiverd this email from a party that I guided last month....It was a terrific day on the water and it goes to show you why Super Fly Charters was a Portland Press Herald 2011 "People Choice" award winner: George, Thanks for working with us to provide a wonderful fishing trip to Maine. My Dad is still talking about seeing all those Striped Bass jumping on the surface and being able to hook into some of them. You worked hard for us, and we appreciate it! If you want to send some of the pictures and video that you took of the trip I will pass them on to Craig and Angie. Thank You, Mark Behrends

  1. I may head west myself taking advantage of a Thursday morning company reprive. Hope to see you out there. Give me a holler...
