Maine Striper Fishing September 14th, 2012

Great day on the water today...tons of schoolies can be had if you fish the right spots at the right tides...and while this kind of fishing is fun it is not what drives me...searching out the bigger more challenging stripers in pristine, uncrowded settings is why people come to fish with me year after...Most days we get some mogan fish other days we dont but we are always in front of solid fish and the opportunity is always there...Today was one of those days, starting out in shallow water trying to turn some monsters and took our shots at some beasts and even boated a nice 28-30 inch fish...after that we played pac-man on the ledges with little schoolies that make you feel good but require very little skill or patience!!!...both styles are amazingly gratifying when the end result is a tug on the end of your line...come find out for yourself!!!

One really cool thing that has happened this week has been the arrival of Atlantic Bonito into Maine waters...these have been the the Juvenile versions not the big line screaming versions but any Bonito caught in midcoast Maine is big news and two days in a row we have gotten into small schools of them while, out on the eastern edge of Casco Bay, loading up the livewells with macks for striper bait...pretty cool stuff to see here in Maine and it just goes to prove that their are no fences out on the big ocean!!!

  1. We caught 2 bonita on Friday too CGH, same spot. Surprised to see baby blues smashing bait up at LI. I'm with you on the schoolies where a few times I was tight but really didn't know if it was a fish or not. So light, and my senses just not in tune with the little guys since it's been years, but it was fun.
