Maine Striper Fishing Charters July 31st, 2012

This is beginning to sound like a broken record...Another morning of huge line dumping hits and hefty stripers...Even had a monster bluefish or two crash the party today...Usually August is bluefish time in Maine!! Today I had Steve Lachance & his brother Frank aboard and we had to deal with some special circumstances...First, Frank is suffering from MS and is wheel chair bound, second with my passenger aboard, bouncy sea conditions slowed down me down and did not allow me to fish the way I normally do but we did not let that totally derail our gameplan...In the end it was a fun morning of fishing with a great crew and we boated some quality fish!!

Maine Striper Fishing Report July 23rd, 2012

Today I had Curran & Tom Lemp aboard for some Striper fishing and instruction...The Lemp family has had a summer place on the Kennebec watershed for many generations but have had very little success with striped bass fishing which is what led them to me...I had no doubt that I could help them conquer their Unicorn!! After deciding to alter my gameplan to fish inside the river due to choppy sea conditions at my oceanside hotspots, We met at the dock in the early morning before sunrise and cruised down river to a set of shallow flats that have been loaded with nice sized but hard to feed stripers...It was evident the stripers were present by their swirls and wakes...we worked a few of the flats and spooked a number of chunky stripers before we got an explosive strike in a little more than a foot of watter and Curran did a masterful Job of playing his fish straight into the net after a short but powerful fight...The curse of the Kennebec stripers has been lifted for the Lemp family and I expect to see their success rates soar just as I have seen with many other Kennebec'rs who've fished with me over the years

Our very popular live baiting trips continue to be highly successful and offer plenty of excitement and a good shot of adrenaline when a big striper ferociously smashes a live mackerel and burns rubber away from the boat!!! Some of our other trip options have had mixed success rates. Fly fishing on the flats have had some good opportunities for sight casting to fish but the Stripers are well fed and so skittish from all the guys out there pounding the snot out the water that they'll seldom eat a fly this time of year...an extremely challenging sport that is very rewarding when you get a fish to eat..such is life for the fly guys...September will be a different story!!! ...

Maine Striper Fishing Report July 22nd 2012

A few pics of some of the beautiful Stripers that we caught today using light tackle gear...the strikes were pretty explosive and these fish made some long, powerful, drag burning runs!!! These guys fished with me last August and hammered the fish then too and are already trying to line up another trip for later this season!!!

Maine Striper Fishing Report July 21st, 2011

Over the last week I have done many Striped Bass trips and even got offshore for a couple of bottom fishing trips for Cod...This Morning I had Pat Dinolfo & his Father-in-law Rob aboard for a morning Striped Bass Charter...we left the dock in Bath bright & early and quickly made our way down the Kennebec river into the atlantic ocean...Our first stop did not produce but after a brief livebait run out to a nearby ledge to secure enough live mackerel for a small army of fishermen... we cruised back into some fishy habitat that has been holding a good amount of sandeels...and STRIPERS!!! It didnt take long to get our first explosive strike and over the course of the tide we boated some nice stripers and broke a few behemoths off after some truly violent strikes...overall a very fun morning with some very good anglers!!! A few days ago I did a groundfish trip with a crew from Tennessee fishing out of Port Clyde...We boated numerous cod including severel nice Keeper fish

Maine Striper Fishing Report: Kennebec River 7/17/12

The middle of July has arrived in midcoast Maine and we are fishing every day!! The Kennebec is holding great numbers of stripers up on the flats but warm river temps have made those fish very, very difficult to feed but have created some cool, yet challenging sight casting opportunities with fly gear for us...This type of flats fishing is not for everyone but for those who enjoy the stalking aspect of sight fishing, you'll find it extremely rewarding when you get a monster striper to eat in shallow water!!!...Lately i've been preferring a more predictable lower stress style of fishing LOL!!! Just as I do most years during peak water temp times, I have recently shifted my focus to areas of cooler water, targeting the larger Stripers that prowl the river mouth

Maine Striper Report July 2012

Sorry for the delay in getting up current reports over the last couple of weeks I have been on the water non stop and their is no end in sight so this will be a brief report!! Striped Bass continue to migrate into the kennebec region...fish ranging from little 16" schoolies to some real brutes...The last several mornings I have been fortunate enough to have some true sight casting conditions on the shallow flats and we have had some pretty explosive hook ups...yesterday we found the stripers to be tightly packed in pretty large groupings (20-100) fish and a bit skittish but not so much that they didn't give us so many perfect shots at them...after an hour of working them with only a few turning towards us...my angler asked if he could throw a noisy popper at them...I suggested that it would probably spook them off the flat and we'd have to move on to the next spot....his first cast..Kaboom....It wasnt the first time that I was proven wrong in the last couple of days!!! There is some good stuff happening for those who appreciate the skinny water challenge...Out in deeper water we're starting to see action by drifting macks over the ledges...this should continue to get better as we move through July into August...Mackerel are super abundant and make for a great day of family fishing..it's a great way to get kids involved in an outdoor activity and away from the video games...plus they are very sporty on ultralight gear!!!
