Maine Striper Fishing Gear Report with Super Fly Charters: March 26th, 2014

Here at Super Fly Charters, we believe that choosing the right equipment is essential in helping us provide our customers with a great experience. Every piece of tackle, rods, reels and clothing are carefully considered. I have been using Simms products for the last 15 years and have always relied on fly shops & other retailers for my purchases. This year I have decided to go direct to the source and have been accepted into the Simms Pro Program...What this will allow me to do is use a greater selection of Simms outerwear, wading equipment and tackle storage systems...Those of you out there who are already using Simms gear already know how great it is!! For those in the market for waders or outerwear, please do yourself a huge favor and visit your local retailer to check out this amazing...Simms products are simply some of the best on the planet!! Read  the bio below to learn a little about the history of this great company!! Also follow this link to find the nearest Simms retailers

Simms is a brand founded on the pillars of innovation. It was the brainchild of visionary angler John Simms who saw a need to develop better waders and accessories than what was then available on the market. That quest led to the development of Simms Fishing Products in 1980. During that era, Simms was one of the first companies worldwide to introduce neoprene waders, which provided enhanced warmth and waterproofing armor for serious anglers pushing the limits of their fishing pursuits. The brand continued to progress under the Jackson-based Life-Link International banner through the ’80s. But it took a giant leap in 1993, when current owner, K.C. Walsh, a passionate angler and entrepreneur, acquired the company and relocated it to Bozeman. Walsh grew up in a flyfishing family and it was his life-long dream to live, and work, and play in Montana. Under Walsh’s leadership, Simms introduced breathable waders in a trailblazing partnership with W.L. Gore & Associates (makers of GORE-TEX® fabric). That seismic shift breathed new life into wader innovation and has since powered the sport to new levels of comfort and performance. Today Simms continues to mature as a brand with a trained eye on fisheries conservation and inspired product development over a wide swath of technical apparel offerings—from state-of-the art sun protection and wind-blocking outerwear to pioneering CleanStream™ footwear technologiesWhat remains unswerving, however, is Simms’s commitment to U.S.-based manufacturing and business ideals. When Simms relocated headquarters in 2012, it cemented its Bozeman roots with a new 60,000-square-foot facility housing corporate headquarters, warehouses, and its production plant. This 15,000 square-foot expansion provides elbowroom to drive product evolution in a more efficient and effective manner. It also solidifies Simms as the sole fishing wader manufacturer in the country. Simms currently staffs nearly 120 locally based employees and is a recognized Montana economic ambassador and community contributor. Although Simms continues to strive for new heights its vision—that stems back to that misty Jackson morning and reverberates through the halls of its new Bozeman stronghold—remains the same: To produce the highest quality products to keep you protected from the elements in any and all fishing conditions.

Maine Saltwater Guided Mothership Wade Fishing Trips With Super Fly Charters

Hey Everyone!!! With both of the kids now in daycare, I'm slowly but surely getting caught up on the stuff that I want to share with you guys...For many of's nothing new, you've been hopping out of the boat with me for years. This year I'm taking these trips to a whole new level & I want to bring you all up to speed on this. We'll have some new specialized equipment to make the wade fishing more efficient Most of the details are described below but if you want more info pick up the phone and give us a call on the Maine Striper Fishing Hotline!!!

Guided Mothership Wading Trips

(a fly angler stalking the edge of a sandbar and finding great success where hungry Stripers were staging at low tide)
photoIf you are feeling adventurous or are just looking for more advanced, surf or wade,  fly & light tackle opportunities then you should experience one of Capt George’s boat/wade fishing combo trips where we use the boat as a mothership to access some  of the most incredible saltwater wade fishing  habitat on the Maine Coast, most of which is only accessible by boat !!! The area that we fish has  many sprawling  hard bottom tidal flats that are bathed in crystal clear ocean waters. Wading the leading edge of a flooding tide can yield some spectacular catches from knee deep water…The same can be said of fishing the edges of flats that have drained off...Even the stealthiest boat will only give you a limited shots at fish and will often spook skinny water stripers out of range or into into deepwater… but a careful wade fishermen can more effectively creep up on wary fish !!! Bring your own waders (Recommended)  or brave the elements and wet wade. Even though the water warms up in July & August waders are a huge benefit for extended wading sessions. This trip option can be tailored specifically for fly or light tackle wade fishermen. Having our boat, the “Super Fly”, to serve as our mothership has huge benefits over our land based  surf fishing trips…The first and biggest benefit is mobility…being able to chase the tides efficiently is critical to success and with Maine’s jagged coastline a boat offers the fastest transport when hopping the peninsula’s and little time is lost. Other benefits include the ability to carry a virtual bait and tackle shop of gear with you!!! The last benefit  is that the boat ride to and from the prime wading areas covers some of the most productive striper grounds in the midcoast region….it’s not unusual to be “interrupted” by hungry schools of blitzing Stripers or Bluefish on the way to you wade fishing spots!!!

I also want to let you know that once the season gets underway we'll be posting a daily dockside video trip report from the Kennebec Tavern on our FB social media page...It's going to be really make sure you head on over there and give our Super Fly Charters Facebook Page a like!!
